You’ll Find Plenty Of Consumer Dollars On Historic King Drive

he economy of the Historic King Drive neighborhood is healthy. Extremely healthy. The community has literally become an urban development model the rest of the country is beginning to emulate. In just the past ten years, the area has had over $200 million worth of new development along Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and the dissecting North Avenue arterial.

In July of 2007, 900 Manpower employees will be moving to the District.

The Historic King Drive area is located immediately north of downtown Milwaukee. The mature, culturally diverse urban neighborhood of medium density, with decades of African-American influence and history, includes a robust retail center at the intersection of North Avenue and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

King Drive has traditionally been a center for shopping. Today, with the neighborhood’s high-quality housing and short commute to downtown jobs, the area has seen a recent influx of singles and families. Housing developments such as Park East Lofts, King Drive Commons and other Brewer's Hill condominium projects are also bringing customers to King Drive businesses and creating needs for more services in the area. It is anchored by several national and well–known local retailers as well as Schlitz Office Park, Aurora Medical Center, and America’s Black Holocaust Museum.

Economically, Historic King Drive is a very solid and fast growing neighborhood. In fact, between the neighborhood’s residents and strong commercial and manufacturing bases, the area is more than economically sound. It’s virtually recession-proof.
